Summer leaves obscure the muscular limbs of the red oaks that line the stone wall at the edge of our field. Silhouettes of the naked trees fill the winter sky.
This solar plate etching is printed on momigami, a handmade kozo paper treated to resemble fine leather in appearance and strength. To make it, I kneaded a paste of konnyaku, a starch extracted from a potato-like tuber, into the kozo and repeatedly crumbled the paper before flattening and drying it.
The water-resistance of the strong dried paper make this artwork suitable for hanging without framing.
